High doses and high intensity Near Infared Light (NIR) can have negative effects:
-Suppression of cellular function
- Increased oxidative damage
-Overstimulation and sleep disruption
- Hyperpigmentation
-Unintentional fat cell reduction
-Diminished return on results
Knowing how & when to use your
NIR can help increase beneficial effects and illiminate the potential for negative outcomes.
Start slow: Begin with lower frequency (2-3x/week) and shorter duration (5-7 min)
Gradually build up (IE every week) so you can monitor for skin changes, sleep disruption, etc.
If the red light includes blue light Blue light— especially wavelengths (~400-480 nm), use this in the morning instead of evening. Blue light lowers melatonin and can disrupt circadian rhythm/sleep patterns.
Check your red light's therapeutic dose ranges, most can be used safely at 40-80J/cm2.
Check your red light's recommend distances. Platinum LED is 8-14 inches away for deeper tissue, or 16-24 inches for superficial skin therapy for example.
Check time recommendations based on treatment goals: usually between 5 and 20 minutes.
Red light therapy has vast research on many incredible health benefits. Just remember, do your research on the red light you are looking to purchase & be sure to follow
recommendations for not only safety, but effectiveness
